The Massachusetts Institute of Technology
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology contacted us after a recommendation from one of our clients, NorthEastern University. They were holding an alumni event in London and wanted an agency to support with the event planning, creative attracts, technical production and onsite management of one of the most important fundraising events in their calendar.
After immersing ourselves in past events, the university history and positioning, messaging and branding we came up with an event plan and creative approach. Three key event areas were decided on including a reception, theatre and interactive projection wall.
Alumni were welcomed in a reception area which included a ‘tube wall’ feature. As part of the application process to MIT, which is notoriously competitive, successful applicants receive a tube in the post. Only 8% of people who apply receive one of these tubes. The ‘tube wall’ was a visual reminder of this process and a way to recognise the rarity and excellence of those attending.
The theatre area was used for a mixture of videos, alumni speakers, a musical production and a speech from the MIT president.
We also designed, developed and installed an interactive projection wall. The objective of the wall was to showcase all of the fantastic innovations and inventions that have come from the university and its members. The motion sensitive illustrations came to life, using animation, as alumni walked past each item.
The event was a huge success with attendee numbers reaching 450, compared to the expected 150. We loved working on this project, and our client loved working with us. They told us that it wasn’t just the overall success of the project that they were impressed with but our attention to detail, our proactivity and a few added surprises that made such a difference.
